Barry Talbot started our company as NWT Financial Ltd. over 40 years ago!

You may be surprised to learn that Barry first went to theological school and was an ordained Baptist Minister before entering the financial service business.

His career choices do make sense though, as helping people is Barry’s true nature. Whether it was through his ministry, or now helping people achieve financial goals, Barry has always kept busy. In fact, Barry has even traveled to Mexico to deliver wheelchairs and help the less fortunate.

Barry has also been inspired by his family, his father taught him how to treat people and help those less fortunate.

Barry and his wife enjoy regular Friday date nights at the Copper House in Yellowknife and they love the beautiful summers in the NWT.

Shawn Talbot

Financial Advisor

Shawn has called the North home for almost his entire life, it’s in his blood.

He’s come a long way since his first job as a grocery bagger at the IGA in Yellowknife, where one of his customers complained he turned her grapes into wine! As an adult, Shawn worked for 17 years at a large Transportation Logistics company and became their General Manager. In this role, he delivered exceptional value and service for clients while managing large contracts, completed strategic planning, and oversaw employees.

In 2019, Shawn shifted gears to join the family business with his dad, Barry. He has been dedicated to quickly learning the ropes as a financial advisor and is now a licensed life insurance, investment, living and group benefits advisor. He is also currently working towards his Certified Financial Planner designation.

Shawn’s greatest joy comes from his family, with his beautiful wife and three sons ages 17 to 26. His youngest McKinley loves sports and shares Shawn’s love of being outside. Tristin is a St. Pat’s graduate and works for the City of Yellowknife and Trey, his oldest, recently started his own IT business.

His second greatest joy is the simply the great outdoors. Shawn’s happiest days are those that start with some peaceful moments on the dock at his cabin or end in the boat enjoying the midnight sun.

He is very excited about the future of Adapt Financial. Shawn loves working with the people of the North, whom he finds very caring, giving and kind. He says the most satisfying part of this job is helping clients and families achieve their financial goals.
